karen betts painter and sculptor

Karen began her art career on a GNVQ advanced art & design course in Scunthorpe, England in 1996. After graduating with a distinction in 1998, she continued her studies with a BA (Hons) degree at the Bradford & Ilkley College of Art & Design. During her time at Bradford, Karen embarked on a 4 week residency at the Cyprus College of Art summer school in Paphos. It was here that her main focus turned to stone carving and sculpture. This experience had such an impact, that on her return to Bradford, Karen changed one of her degree modules from printmaking to ceramics. Coming back to Cyprus each year after, Karen remarks, “Each time I came back to study at the summer school, I would have a strong desire to work with stone. There is something about the landscape, culture and climate of the island that draws me into stone carving”. In 2005 she completed a postgraduate diploma course at the Cyprus College of Art, Lemba, Paphos and remained on the Island. Today, Karen continues to develop her own proficiency in both sculpture and in painting, exhibiting on a regular basis.
